Before we talk about our services, please remember PAT Testing is not an excuse for common sense. Even if you have just had everything tested, still keep an eye on your equipment. Here are some things to look out for even if you "know nothing about electrics":
Eyes
When you come into work, keep an eye open. Does anything not look right? Is there insulation missing on any wires?
Listen
If you hear an unusal sound, unplug it and have it tested or replaced.
Feel
If something does not feel right, no harm in at least talking to someone else in the office. If it does not feel right to them too, chances are it is worth having checked.
Look again
Not just things like missing insulation. Do you have multiple powerstrips plugged into each other or a power cable running across a walkway?
Support
We want you to be safe in your office, even if you are not a previous customer, drop us an email and we will be happy to say if it needs further investigation. We don't charge to answer your emails and you are under no obligation to use us (or our recommended electrician) if we recommend that someone comes out to look at it.
What do we do?
Simply put, we do your PAT testing as required by law. We mainly deal with office equipment but are happy with most non industrial environments. All testing is carried out by a qualified PAT tester that we additionally require them to refresh their training on a yearly basis. We are fully insured for the service we provide.
What do we not do?
Our testers are only qualified for PAT testing, they are not electricians. They will be happy to do simple appliance related work like replace a fuse or rewire a plug. Anything not related to appliances we are testing or the building circuits need to be performed by a qualified electrician. If needed we have a recommended electrician. Our PAT testing service is simply that, we will not attempt to repair any faulty equipment.
How often do I need to get my portable appliances tested?
The quick answer is "it depends...". Recommended frequency is split into parts Formal Visual and Full Test. Removing the requirements for Construction Sites, typically everything should have a formal visual check annually and the full test every 1 - 2 years. With this in mind we recommend we do a full test every year so you have documentation that at least the Formal Visual has been completed each year. One noticeable exception is "Areas or Equipment to which the Public have access" that need to have a Formal Visual every 3 Months. For companies and organisations for whom this applies, we offer a reduced cost "visual only check" or more typically will train up to 3 members of staff at the annual check to perform and document the additional visual checks themself.
Where are you based?
We are based in Peebles, Scottish borders. Our prices are for premises within 12 miles of Peebles or for existing customers. If you are a little over 12 miles we may still be able to do your testing at an additional cost so get in touch.
